A woman was given a wedding ring by her lover. She marvelled at the wedding ring, and spent all of her time thinking about the wedding ring. She fell in love with the wedding ring, and forgot her lover. Then she became depressed, because the ring didn’t show her the same love as her lover. The ring was lifeless without the lover. How much better would it have been if she marvelled at the ring, and whenever she saw it, she was reminded of her lover? And how much better would it be if we marvelled at God’s gifts, and were reminded of God? How much better is the giver than the gift? A lover can give many wonderful gifts.

All things are united in God, and he does with them as he pleases. Everything belongs to God, and he freely gives to whomever he pleases. He is the consciousness above all consciousness. His consciousness encompasses yours. Everything you see, he sees. Everything that you hear, he hears. There’s no one who will see you more than God. There’s no one who will listen to you more than God. There’s nothing that’s not God’s to give. What better friend could you have than God? So why would your end goal be anything other than God?

Everyone has goals. Everyone has a destination. Wherever you’re aiming to go, you’ll get there sooner or later. So if your goal is God, then you’ll reach him. God is the life of the world. What’s it like to reach him? Infinite life. Infinite joy. Undying love. But if you have a different goal, then you’ll reach that too. And if you’re not heading towards life, then you’re heading towards what’s lifeless. Death. Endless death. And what’s it like to reach death? Death is lifeless. Joyless. Loveless. Death is painful. So why would your end goal be anything other than God?

This is what the God-inspired have said: there’s only one God. Ultimately, God should be your only goal. Aiming for anything else is inherently painful. Many put things on the same level as the Ultimate Consciousness. This is bound to cause great suffering. Many put things above him. This also is bound to cause great suffering. What would you make equal to Life itself? Lovers? Wealth? Status? Different deities that are lesser than the Ultimate Consciousness? Nationalism for a nation lesser than his Kingdom? Some ideology that has nothing to do with God? Anything you make to compete with Life itself will cause death. Anything you make to compete with Love itself will cause hatred. Why let your mind go down into death and hatred? Why would your end goal be anything other than God?

Does this mean that we can’t praise or appreciate the different beings that God has created? No, they’re God’s gift. Shouldn’t we appreciate the wedding ring given to us by our lover? But how sad would it be if it caused us to turn away from our lover? And be careful not to fool yourself. Many will claim to have their lover on their mind, but they’ve actually fallen for the ring!
Does this mean that there aren’t powerful beings out there? No, they’re God’s creation. But these living beings aren’t the Life of the World. They might help you in the short-term, but if they distract you from unity with Life itself, then what’s the point?
God is Life. God is Love. God is the consciousness above all consciousness. Turn away from different goals, and let this be your goal. Make peace with God.
